Nursing Students' Experience of Participating in Pharmacology Learning Clubs: Qualitative Research

Abstract

|
Purpose : This study aimed to intensely explore, understand, and describe the experience of nursing students' participation in pharmacology learning circle.
Methods: The participants of this study were 15 students who were sophomores at the college of nursing, had experience in a pharmacology learning circle, and agreed to participate in this study. Data collection was carried out through individual interviews in-depth. Data were collected from February 2 to May 31, 2018, and were analyzed with the inductive content analysis method of Elo and Kyngas (2008).
Results: The participants' experiences of the pharmacology learning circle were divided into four main categories, seven categories, and 26 sub-categories. The four main categories were ¡®First experience of pharmacology learning circle¡¯, ¡®Overcoming fear of pharmacology course¡¯, ¡®Building a sense of camaraderie and solidarity¡¯, ¡°Interest and reward for learning pharmacology¡¯.
Conclusion: As the participants experienced pharmacology learning circle activities, the prejudice that pharmacology was difficult disappeared, and a sense of camaraderie and solidarity with the team members was formed. As a result, the participants developed an interest in pharmacology and felt rewarded for the learning circle activities.
